Coming into work I thought it was ironic that on a federal holiday that recognizes the freedom of slaves, our predominately black security division is working up to 16 hour shifts, while our predominately Caucasian office is having a 3 day weekend.
I wouldn't be complaining too much because we did sign up for this and recognized its an around the clock job with good pay, until I realized that the janitorial company refuses to recognize the holiday despite over half of their staff being black and earning minimum wage.
Why we can choose to recognize certain holidays will be a mystery to me
