Not sure if this is the right sub, but I need to vent.
My boyfriend and I rent a decent sized, yet old unit in the greater metro area of a town in the northwest. We do have a yard, Garage, and other things that are uncommon for living in a multi unit building. But I do want to emphasize that our building is old. Our carpets were not redone when I moved in, we had to sign a disclaimer saying that since the place is so old, there might be traces of lead paint. All sorts of fun stuff. I just received a text from our landlord saying that in 3 months, we will have a rent increase of 9%.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, I was able to negotiate a 10% raise at my job. I am grateful for my boss because it wasn’t much of a negotiation. She was able to see that I have taken on more tasks than when I started and she doesn’t want to loose me as part of the team. And I know I’ll get another raise at the end of the year as well.
My frustration is that my partner and I both work 40 house and make around $5 dollars over minimum wage. We bust our butts, but at then end of our pay periods, we are flat broke. We are lucky if we have some leftover money to toss into savings. I thought that getting my raise at work will be able to allow me to stash away some savings, but now it looks pretty bleak. I’m just ranting because I’m so exhausted and stressed trying to survive. I genuinely don’t understand how people do it, because I am struggling.
