I will obscure info that might identify me based on my role. I work in a support role, and provide help to many hundreds of people across over 5 cities.
Today I got in trouble for being too talkative when I go to a worksite to complete a job. Personally, I try to match the energy I get from people. Mostly people act like they wish I didn't exist because they associate us with the problems they find so frustrating.
I am regularly and frequently subjected to verbal abuse, intentional or not, and people often treat us like therapists, making me stay until they are done venting. I've been told that this is part of the job.
I have previously gotten in trouble because I was seen as cold for sticking to the letter of my job, so I've tried to be very friendly towards everyone, while also busting ass to get things done as quickly as possible. Today, I was very surprised to hear multiple people complained that I was too chatty, and I'd gotten in trouble for chatting with my coworkers while working in my office.
There are other things that have happened which have made my job increasingly unenjoyable, but I won't list them in case they find this post.
There was about one week where I felt happy at this job in many months I've been here. Hoping to escape soon.
