I’m an data analyst for a large corporation in the U.S. I’ve only been here for a bit more than a year and generally I have enjoyed my job. Fully remote. I’m paid decently. No complaints about my manager or coworkers.
Our team is quite small and we had 1 Sr. Analyst prior to this new addition who 100% deserves it. Honestly, I don’t even think I’m at the point where I should have been offered a Sr. Analyst title but I’m really confused as to how this new person is.
I know he can’t code, doesn’t have an advanced degree, and has 1 year of work experience. I genuinely like this guy but why is he starting at a higher position and receiving more compensation than the members of the team that have been here for much longer and have already proven they can provide useful business insights? I honestly don’t even know how he fits into our team since he doesn’t have the skills of the (not sr.) analyst he is replacing.
Do our managers not see how this could rub our team the wrong way? Am I overreacting? Am I justifiably upset?
Just feels like a slap in the face because we could have all had a raise and he could’ve been offered a regular analyst position. Guess he’s my superior now.
I have 0 motivation to do anything right now and heavily considering looking for a new job. Also trying really hard not to focus on the fact that he is now the only white man on our team who isn’t a manager.
