I started at this corner store near my house yesterday. It was going well until my boss told me that if my til was short it would be deducted from my check. The wage was just above minimum wage. I didn't think much of it until today when she kept reiterating that money would be deducted from my paycheck if my til was short. I was bothered by how much she was pushing it, so when she wasn't looking I looked up the law for my state and that is super duper illegal. I decided to ask her about it and see her reaction, and whoooo boy.
Highlights include
“That is my rule I don't care about their rule”
Calling her husband to yell at me that I need to accept it or leave.
“If you don't like it you can leave! We are not firing you!”
“How could we stay in business?!?! We can't take those losses!”
“What's to stop you from giving your friends money?!” I have no friends and there are 3 cameras pointed at the til and counter.
“I don't care, if you don't like it you can walk away. We are not arguing you can leave.”
Looks like I'll be doing some paperwork and reporting tomorrow.
