I work at a warehouse in Minneapolis, MN. Called out on Friday well in advance of my shift because I was feeling sick. Found out through a coworker that the CEO was very angry that I called out because I've, “been doing it too much this year.” Literally every day that I've called out I've had PTO/sick days to use. Got no warning and was never written up for calling out sick in the six years I worked there.
Came in today wearing an N95 mask because I was still quite sick (tested negative for COVID, but wanted to be as cautious as possible.) About 15 minutes into my shift got called into the office and fired. All four of my supervisors/managers told the CEO it was a bad idea as I know almost every process in the building. He didn't care and told them to get rid of me on Monday. Wanted to use my termination as an example for the other employees. (An example that you should be cautious about using your PTO?) Glad I dragged my sick ass into work just to get it handed back to me.
