Hoping to get back on my feet after being unemployed for a while, and now living with a friend, I went to apply for a job at a coffee shop I liked, and used to go to when I could afford it.
I was referred to the boomer manager when I asked the (very nice) waitress, and he told me, straight up like that, “you're hot enough, but we're looking for taller women here”. I must've been very obviously upset, bc he made a poor attempt to backpedal… “I mean because we have some tall shelves you need to grab things from”, “the job is too hard for you”… No comments.
He made me feel horrible with that comment, and like I'm not good enough. I don't even know if I'd rather he lied to me, but he definitely should've been more respectful. Now I don't even feel confident enough to keep looking for waitress and customer service jobs, which is what I'm most experienced at
