Sorry if this doesn’t belong here, but I could use some advice.
Some background. Today, I had an interview at a small manufacturing plant. No interacting with customers or anything, just straight line work etc. Its a family run place so the team is quite “tight knit” according to the interviewer. As per the title, I do have septum and nostril piercings. Nothing huge, just some hoops. Onto the interview:
I thought it was going quite well. Took me on a walk through the plant, introduced me to people, all that stuff. Got back to the interview room to wrap stuff up and he kind of nonchalantly said that my piercings were a “deterrent” and that I’d need to get rid of them before I started there. I was rather taken aback since I wouldn’t be interacting with customers or anything like that, so I didn’t see my piercings as an issue when it comes to this job. I have worked manufacturing jobs before and my piercings were never a problem, so this bothered me. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Curious if this is prevalent.
