It’s basically a repurposed turkey farm with each barn providing different goods or services.
I worked in the gas station/“farmer’s market”* barn and yeah, the owner’s in need of some serious humble pie
1.) Owner keeps a loaded firearm in an unlocked desk drawer in an office with no door lock
2.) Speaking of locks, the only security system are a padlock on a loose hinge along the side door, two padlocks on the main door and a door alarm
3.) Owner proudly declares himself “old-fashioned” and almost all the equipment is at least thirty years old, and is starting to break down without a life raft of available service parts
4.) The only protection provided cashiers are two baseball bats behind the counter and phone numbers listed on a fridge. Owner had a meltdown when a panic button was offered, insisting those were unnecessary (nearest PD is fifteen minutes away)
5.) Cashiers are forbidden from calling the owner and discouraged from calling the manager after they leave for the day as “[y]our safety is not their responsibility”
6.) Owner refuses benefits or holiday pay insisting being allowed to work at the store is the only benefit we need.
7.) Owner always sides with the customers and refuses to back up his workers, unless they’re well-endowed brunettes. Then they’re permitted to skip work or show up two or more hours late for a shift. Anyone else showing up five minutes late can be fired
8.) Owner can shut down the store early but no one else is allowed. Likewise, owner and family members get anything they want for free at any time. Employees are supposed to pay for everything but damn near everyone steals anyway
Anyone daring to critique the owner is reminded he’s both a war vet and the owner so he can do whatever he wants
