I’ve been working while going to school for the past year now and it’s been pretty chill up until the past 2 weeks. I only ever quit a job when it is apparent that I am getting absolutely screwed and this week I finally realized how screwed I was actually getting. I was working at a bagel place that primarily hires college students (since I live in a college town) but it’s never really had a problem with hiring, until recently. The first month I was there a shift lead quit and no one came to take their place for two months after that. Then another coworker quit 2 weeks ago and still nobody came to take their place. At this point I’m wondering what is going on and why nobody is applying for this job. So I go to Indeed and see if there is an ad up for the job and there is absolutely nothing. I think to myself “am I getting royally screwed and taken advantage of?” And it turned out that I was. Since I have night school I’m mostly willing to cover for people if they need the help but no one was every willing to reciprocate. So today when I went into work and saw that it was going to be me and the new guy working the front and my manager was going to be in the back doing inventory I told myself I that that was enough. We close @ 2 and normally I get done with all the closing chores by 2:45 but today I didn’t leave until 4:00 and I have class at 4:30. So at that point I was just kinda done so after work I messaged my manager letting her know that I was done. Work just isn’t worth sacrificing for when you are a student. :/
