Just received notice that my health insurance through my previous employer is being discontinued, but..

Here's the thing: I never opted into their shitty health insurance. I remember denying it during my “on-boarding” process when I got hired. Also this has happened before at a similar job but through a different contractor company. I don't think it's worth pursuing legal repercussions at this point, but I'm wondering anyways is it even legal for them to do this? Should I be looking out for this and taking steps to prevent this in the future? What are my options for doing so? EDIT: Seems my worries were unfounded, thanks to the people that helped me understand and figure out how little I still know about how all this works, will leave this thread here for posterity sake and to immortalize my ignorance.
