Before I explain I should state that a good friend helped me get this job so I’m trying my best to be an ideal employee. Yesterday morning I barely made it into work, feeling absolutely awful. We’re a construction company and we go out in teams of two. Before we set off I went and told 2 of my superiors that I was feeling pretty under the weather, sore throat, feeling extremely weak and nauseous. One of them said, “sick?! That’s not an excuse!” With a little laugh at the end to “excuse” his uncaring comment. The other just said you can drive your own vehicle to the job side (45 min drive) and if you feel bad enough you can leave. Fast forward 2 hours into the job and I can barely stand up, I’m feeling super nauseous and I just can’t move fast at all, I decide to go home. I slept from 10:30 basically till this morning, still feeling pretty awful. This morning I texted him saying I would appreciate one more day off to rest, but if you guys need me, I can try to work again today. Obviously being nice hoping they show some sort of respect to me and let me recover. Nope, all he text back is the address to my job site today. I hate capitalism. What am I suppose to do? Roll the dice and hope I get another “decent” job with benefits that has employees with morals? Leave my friend hanging that went out on a limb for me? This place sucks.
