I used to work at a medical office where the climate was not only really religious but had many double standards. To preface I did not know that by law you are ALLOWED to discuss your salary. This office had many mothers working there and gave allowances to them for everything. I understand that children have issues and needs, but the amount of time off and going home early they had was a lot and our boss always expected us to pick up the slack as if we weren’t understaffed in those moments. There was blank any favoritism and people tried to get in good with our boss by giving presents like for Christmas, holidays, or bringing in desserts “just cause.” They knew that it got them special treatment and understanding. I worked there a whole year and told them before I was hired I was getting married in a year. When the time came and they knew the dates of my honeymoon well in advance I couldn’t use any of my sick time. I didn’t have any PTO yet and said sick time is for the sick, even required a doctors note. After that I was stressing out about finances as we had some family changes. After some push at my office they ‘graciously’ gave me a two dollar raise and said “you can’t discuss it with anyone as you are making more than some people”. Absolute trash. The last straw was when I requested time off a month in advance for a time sensitive surgery they refused because it was our busiest month. Like man I don’t care and my surgery sure as hell doesn’t care. Was not gonna risk my life for them. That was the day i quit.
