Just want to rant….

I have been working at my current company since January of 2021. I’ve been in this industry for almost a decade. No degree (I’m currently in my senior year though), but I do have two industry certifications. However, my department manager, who manages my team as well as our A/R team, is just awful. We go through A/R reps like toilet paper because no one can stand working with the manager. This was her first management/supervisory position, and she only got the position because she complained that someone else had been promoted, and she’d been there longer than that person. That was 4 years ago. In 2022 alone we have hired and lost 3 going on 4 A/R reps (one might be quitting, but she’s not sure yet). My team was a little bit more stable; the previous team lead had worked there for 3 years and left in November.…

My team was a little bit more stable; the previous team lead had worked there for 3 years and left in November. I became the de facto team lead after that, even though my title and pay did not change. I have been expected to train new hires for my team (we had one A/R rep transfer in, and two employees from other departments come to cross train so they can work “part time”). I personally created the training documents we use now because there were none—the previous team lead that trained me had cobbled together random pieces of paper that had been handed down to her from a previous employee. I’m also the person that EVERYONE in the office, as well as some other offices, comes to with a question regarding my department—and yes, that includes my manager. My manager who, supposedly, before she was promoted worked in my position for years.

Here’s example of my manager in action: we have a new A/R rep, who the manager did not train. She asked another A/R rep to train her. My manager gets frustrated with the new rep for “asking too many questions” and “not meeting metrics”. She got called into the managers office this morning and was told that she wrote an official document in a way the manager didn’t like—didn’t specify why, or how to change it—so now anything the new rep writes needs to be approved by the manager. However, the rep that trained the new girl has never gotten in trouble, and she does things the same way! She also, after 18 months in my position, finally sent an email to me and my team putting our metrics in writing.

Anyway, to edge off some questions: -Just because I didn’t officially get the title doesn’t mean I didn’t update my resume to reflect the title, or list the expanded duties I’m performing.
-I only got a 2.97% raise during my review, but I negotiated another 18% after I threatened to leave about a month ago.
-I’m planning on leaving the area in December/January once I graduate, so it would have been stupid of me to get a new job only to work in that job for 6-8 months.
