First time posting here, but I have to express my disbelief in a company that actually takes care of their employees after years of being a wage slave.
For the last 5 years, I worked as a sales rep for a large corporation that treated their employees as warm bodies occupying a store. The last year of that tenure, I graduated college and I made the switch to being a store manager for a franchise owned store. Things were going great. I loved the job and the owners.
Fast forward to Fall 2021, I had already hit my sales goal for the entire year. I was literally crushing it. They couldn’t believe how well I was doing. I received my bonus check and realized that a huge portion was missing. Why? When they hired me, I was guaranteed no cap in bonus money, which is a large part of why I took the job to begin with. Turns out, they essentially didn’t think anyone could hit those numbers and “oh actually there is a cap to bonuses..”
Cue the downward spiral. Since more bonus money wasn’t an option, I asked for a 5% raise and a week more of PTO seeing as they only offered 5 days a year. They denied my request immediately and said raises happen at the end of the year and they can’t make an exception for me even though I was the top performing employee in the entire company. What did I do? The absolute fucking bare minimum from there on out. I watched YouTube in the back office every day for 3 months and only did my core responsibilities when they were necessary. Ironically, I still hit well over monthly sales goals (still with no extra bonus).
During this time I created a LinkedIn profile, beefed up my resume, and applied for jobs wayyyy out of my range just for shits and giggles. Somehow I managed to get an interview with one of them and I absolutely nailed the job interview with the recruiter and the second interview with the upper management. I accepted the job offer.
In short: I received a 35% raise, I work remote, unlimited/untracked PTO, zero micromanaging, a healthy and progressive work culture, travel for work when I want, competent upper management, team outings paid for, fully paid for medical insurance for me and my wife, and a clear vision for my future.
The point of this is it does get better. Apply for things that you don’t think you are qualified for. I didn’t even hit all the metrics on the LinkedIn job post but I shot my shot anyway and hit the jackpot.
KNOW YOUR WORTH!
