lacking management experience

Shout out to one of my customers (I have a handyman business that I do on the side and have done a lot of work for her and her family members) who was the director of an elderly care facility that told me to apply for the maintenance director position she had open at her property. Interviewed with a director at another property, then her for the second interview, and then got told that the regional manager would not meet with me because I lacked the management training… so I didn't get the job despite both the previous directors saying they loved my answers to how I would be as a manager (asking situational questions that they have had in the past) because I need management training before I can be a manager? because I need management training before I can be a manager?

Having shifty managers that handle situations poorly and berate employees for simple things has taught me, and likely MANY people how a good manager should act. We all have had at least one (hopefully) good manager that we loved working for. If having a shitty manager doesn't show you how to be a good one I'm not sure what would.

Position would have let me finally afford an apartment and move out of the trailer I've been in for the last year… with fantastic benefits
