I work for a pretty big eclectic company. I joined the IBEW in May of 2021, and I'm not an apprentice, I'm a CW (Construction Wireman) so the company sees me as cheap labor. I work in solar, but since winter is the “slow season” its been hard getting projects to work on. I got a call back during the last week of September 2021 saying I was going to sit for a week or two. I didn't mind since it would only have been a few weeks. But now its going on 5 month and my crew I was with has been working the entire time.
Being in the trade for such a short time, I'm not very good at the job. I'm a bit of a slow learner and I've been getting hazed by my co-workers for being new. I've been finding odd jobs to bring in money here and there but I really thought the trades were going to be the answer to my financial success but I've been laid off longer than I've been employed by this electric company. I finally got in contact with a foreman who might find me work but he won't get back to me till Monday.
I really don't know why I'm posting this, but just had to get this off my chest, and as a warning to people who are as foolish as I am. Just because your got your foot in the door to something promising, doesn't mean life gets any easier.
