I do contract work in US but my wife was about to deliver our first kid in another country. I asked my boss to leave for just 3 weeks. She approved of it and seemed fine.
12 hrs before my child was born i get a call from the recruiting agency that they are canceling my contract. My boss said that I'm not talking any initiatives and taking too many days off as i had too travel back and forth to see my wife. Everytime i did, it was no more than a week or 2. Funny part, i don't even get PTO.
Now i get to spend more time with my kiddo without the noose of work.
