First, I hate the word “landlord” and only use it for lack of a better term. Let’s create our own term for it. How about:
SOCIALIST HOUSING PROVIDER (SHP?)
Now, why do we need SHPs and how can they operate as socialist when it’s wrong to make a living off of things that are necessary to life?
First, it’s not wrong to make a living off of things like food, water, healthcare, etc. This is a lie that sneaky capitalists perpetuate so that socialism will sound like many people have to work hard to allow lazy, greedy people to live lavish lives. The REAL problem we have with these services is that capitalist landlords are all about profit instead of providing an affordable, valuable and necessary service to people.
Not everyone wants to own a home. Some people like to move from place to place and not be tied to a single place for too long. Some folks enjoy traveling for vacation. Some folks need temporary housing while waiting for their home to be built. There’s a million reasons for temporary housing.
Now, what’s the difference between an SHP and a capitalist landlord? Let's look.
An SHP would:
– Charge a fair price for their rentals
– Perform all of the maintenance on their rental themselves (or would not pass on the cost of any maintenance that they couldn't perform themselves).
– Provide preventative maintenance so that situations are taken care of before they become problems
– Fixes any problems that arise, immediately (and without having to be asked when possible)
– Provide refunds on incidental profits or circulate those profits back into the community.
– Live in, or very near, the rental they are providing and would know all of their tenants by name.
A capitalist landlord would:
- Do the exact opposite of what an SHP would do. Fuck capitalist landlords.
Did I miss anything?
Edit: For those that are downvoting, would you also argue that doctors shouldn’t make a living? What about teachers? What about farmers?
Edit 2: took out the “eviction” bit because people are to hung up on it to wrap their mind around the rest of the argument.
