Large office buildings are a relic of the past. The push to get people back into the office is a sign of corruption.

There's little reason to have an office and desks for every person who works for your company in the internet age. I get the need for a space for some in-person business, but it's a fraction compared to what was needed in the past. The problem is the owners of office buildings are some of the most powerful people in America (which makes them oligarchs.) add that most loans, hedge funds, and other financial institutions have their investments and collateral tied up in those very same buildings. So they are more likely to assassinate the president than take a hit on that front. I've heard some small businesses can't get a loan unless they commit to having an office space. Banks create two revenue streams with this rule.
