Last job I told my supervisors I need more work, was made redundant and laid off. Worried I may be in a similar position with my new job

I am very hard worker and have to be busy busy busy or I grow frustrated, lose interest, and just NOT want to go to work! I have had a busy career for 21 years and then in my last job, six months in, I told my supervisor I need more work to keep busy. I was met with a blank stare, made redundant, and laid off. I am four months into my new, current position and we are down one person on our four member team.. and I am twiddling my thumbs! I need more work to do! I'd rather my company NOT hire a fourth person and give me at a minimum 25% of that salary, I'd be super happy. How do I even begin to have this type of conversation with my boss and not lose my job? How do you even begin to have the conversation…

I should probably start looking for a new job that pays more and has more responsibilities but I work in a very narrow field. THANKS! (I love antiwork!)
