Last week at my job

Been with a large finance firm for around a year, and discussed pay with my direct boss a month or so back, as I was hired at lowest end of wage scale with 10+ years experience. Short story was there would be no discussion, and no raise outside of annual reviews in spring capped at 3% max. Been with a large finance firm for around a year, and discussed pay with my direct boss a month or so back, as I was hired at lowest end of wage scale with 10+ years experience.

Short story was there would be no discussion, and no raise outside of annual reviews in spring capped at 3% max. I currently make 25% below the midrange of the roles advertised range for my location and role. Boss basically asked me why I didn't counter offer when I hired if I wanted more money.

Well, I took their advice, and counteroffered my new firm, which netted me a 150% pay increase over my current role with another firm who saw my worth and decided to pursue me.

Today in my final team meeting, not a single person in my group said “goodbye” or “good luck”. Just discussed who would be taking on my workload.

I was conflicted on leaving so soon after taking on this role, but today cemented it for me.

Moral of the story: go get what you are worth. Don't be guilted into staying somewhere that doesn't value you, and don't think of your employer as anything more than the company paying you. To them, you are a number. When you are gone, someone else will be assigned your number.

Go get what you are worth.
