Worked in tech for 1wk short of 35 yrs. in advanced development at senior level. Got laid off had to do perp walk down long hall with manager who I’ve known whole career. He and his boss sat ne down and asked if there’s anything I’d like to say. No just that I was planning to retire nicely within the next yr. That would’ve been nice to do.
Got rehired at a significantly lower level with less pay in a not so good department ( I still needed to get some $$ and wasn’t ready to retire). Saw they replaced me with a new grad. So it was cost cutting measure. Cal. Mgmt kept having calls scheduled at 4:00 their time 6:00 central time for us. We kept complaining that we all came in 630 am and had worked more than a full day. Left coast people didn’t come in until noon our time. They didn’t care We stopped calling in. Mgr in cal. Got pissed and told us all we had to attend.
Several weeks later some other corp bs came down. I got tired of it. I Had enough saved to be retired. So that’s what I decided. Sent him an email saying I was quitting in 1 week. Normally people say around train the new person. He asked why and I said y’all laid me off with no notice I thought giving you a week was generous on my part and that I was tired of his mandatory late calls. He claimed he didn’t realize it was an issue. I said well now you know.
My attitude was f’em. They didn’t care about me after a full career with them why should I care about them.
Corporations don’t give a spit about you. So you shouldn’t about them either.
