I am a program manager for a manufacturing company. I put my 2 week notice in last Monday and had my official exit interview today. I'll leave the reasons I'm leaving our but I have a higher paid job and seemingly better company waiting. During my exit interview I explained my frustration with senior management and all my reasons for leaving. The HR rep then got to vacation time. I have almost 4 weeks of vacation time. I have used 7 days so far this year. Well, they pro-rated the vacation days when you leave. And I have taken 1.5 hours more of vacation then what my prorated quantity was. So that time will be deducted from my paycheck. It really pissed me off. I'll be ok losing that money, but others won't. If one of our operators had this and was losing more. It just seems like such a crap policy. I understand people could take advantage but maybe if you were a better company people wouldn't leave en masse and this wouldn't be an issue. Prorated vacation time is ridiculous. Whatever vacation you have should be given at the start of the year. Just another way companies can keep their workers down.
