So, I know a way to live /travel without working as much, and I thought maybe you guys would want to know about. It’s mainly for guys, since I’d consider it unsafe for a woman to do alone/without a trusted male partner:
-Buy a motorcycle (preferably, insurance is cheaper, gas is cheaper, parts are cheaper, everything is cheaper)
+Bonus points if it’s a old Harley (I’m biased)
-By a back pack, and a sissy bar (look it up)
-Only travel with what you can carry in back pack. Mainly a pair of work clothes, cigarettes, hammock, and a blanket
-If in the northern states, only do so in spring/midsummer. It’s rough any later
-All around, it should cost right around 5k. The bike being the biggest expense
-A cell phone
-The balls to go into chaos with no plan
-plane ticket too a southern state (TN and lower)
Alright. So you got your backpack, and your best pair of durable clothes that you’ll wear pretty much 24/7. A comfortable 6k in your pocket from selling your car, belongings, whatever you had to sell/saved for half a year. You learned to ride a motorcycle from your friend, and have a motorcycle license. (If you don’t get it, no biggie. Learn to ride later)
Your flying to Orlando, FL, to purchase a motorcycle. You don’t know anybody, and nobody even knows you are going. You didn’t give your landlord a notice, because you’ll never reap the repurcussions anyways, your traveling 3000 miles away from that shit hole. You’ll adopt this attitude, of no fucks given, because you are your own master. You do as you want, because you can.
You arrive, and hop onto Craigslist or whatever preferred classifieds you desire. Preferably CL though, as this is where you’ll find work, rest, and your bike. Construction work is common, and they pay cash. It’s easy to immediately show up to town, and have a job the very next day. Hostels will be your best friend. Some nights you won’t sleep, but that’s par for the course. Never stress, it ALWAYS works itself out.
^ then it’s your story. You decide everything from then on out. I did something very similar, and it was an amazing experience. Went all over the country. The most important thing is attitude, and then being competent/intuitive.
If you have questions, ask. This is legitimate. All you have to do, is take action. So do it, we both know you want too have freedom.
