I’ve worked in a grocery store for a number of years and barely make more than minimum wage. Today my manager pulled me into a room to have a discussion. Apparently I don’t talk much to management and that makes them so uncomfortable that it’s disruptive to the whole team. I work alone, almost all of us get a section and work it by ourselves, I don’t bother any one. I have a resting bitch face which is also an issue he has, told me I need to start smiling as well. Told me it wasn’t just management but the other employees too. Weird thing is I have a conversation with almost the entire department on every shift. He’s been the manager here for almost 4 years and this is how he met me, I haven’t changed but now it’s a problem. People get written up for talking too much so it’s a damned if I do and damned if I don’t. I’m getting written up for not bothering anyone and a write up is an automatic denial of a raise.
His master plan: hey it seems like you don’t like us, so to make you like us we’re going to write you up.
