About five years ago when I was looking for a job, an old coworker called me and told me all about this amazing position at a company he just joined. He was so adamant about all of the potential at this company. It was for a management job in my industry. I’ve been in this industry for about 20 years. I did a little research using glassdoor and some of the reviews were not good. I looked on LinkedIn and found the old manager for the position I was going to interview for. He had been in that position for only about six months. So I decided to reach out to him on LinkedIn and see if he had a moment to talk. He quickly excepted my invitation and we were chatting within 30 minutes. Boy, the things I learned! I politely declined my old colleague. Three months later he was on to another job! I will always use this technique in the future.
