Listening to management gets you fucked in every way

TLDR below 🙂 So this just happened about 45 mins ago as im typin, i finally calmed down after talking with my SO and thought id type what i remember about the whole ordeal. For a baseline ill outright say i work at Subway and i dont care if i get fired. So the other day i had a shift from 6am to 2 pm, having a “opening” shift im responsible to prepare all the food and bread a lot of stuff that takes my entire shift while still servicing customers. a few days ago i stayed till around 2:30 or :40 because i was a little behind and when i was finaly going to leave we had about 6 customers inside and got an online order (uber or doordash) that was 8 sandwiches so oviously i was going to help. my manager texted me 5 times telling me to…

So this just happened about 45 mins ago as im typin, i finally calmed down after talking with my SO and thought id type what i remember about the whole ordeal. For a baseline ill outright say i work at Subway and i dont care if i get fired. So the other day i had a shift from 6am to 2 pm, having a “opening” shift im responsible to prepare all the food and bread a lot of stuff that takes my entire shift while still servicing customers. a few days ago i stayed till around 2:30 or :40 because i was a little behind and when i was finaly going to leave we had about 6 customers inside and got an online order (uber or doordash) that was 8 sandwiches so oviously i was going to help. my manager texted me 5 times telling me to leave also called my co worker that was there to replace me to tell me to leave, we both ignored him but i left soon after because we finished the orders. the next day i was reminded not to stay after my 8 hours in order to not do OT so i said i understood. that same day my co worker and i (we usualy work together often/ about 3 out of 5 days a week, lets call him david) clock out at 10pm which is out scheduled time to leave i had done 8 hours and he had done 6 (he could have stayed clocked in but malicious compliance sets in and no OT turns into clock out when scheduled). We have been doing this for a week, reason being the employee who comes in at 10 for a 10pm to 6 am shift (graveyard) is ALWAYS late 5 to 40 mins late (ive had many problems with him lets call him Cole). we stayed till 11pm and leave, we arent being paid so we just leave ( also we dont have a key to close only the manager does).

the next day we come in and Manager sets David aside and talks to him, later he tells me that he now has to stay clocked in until Cole gets into work specifying that even if he has to go past 8 hours he needs stay. i tell david that he set him aisde away from me so that i couldnt defend him against wrong managing, reason being i talk back to Manager because ive been in the food industry being misused enough to not say NO! not to mention its the exact opposite he instructed me

two days pass and David says hes done with Cole and the managers' shit so we are approaching 10pm its literally 9:59 and David tells me im not staying im out im leaving. so listening to my manager i say to the 6 people i have in the lobby that we can no longer help them. we need to clock out ASAP and leave.

SIGH…

as i told the customers i was currently working on a sandwich and 2 what ill call “Karens” stared recording and asking why this is happening. well i tell them what you guys have read above or at least try to as they scream over me because all they care about is the food. i say we cant because we need to clock out due to instructions from manager and 2 people walk out and 4 including the guy whos sandwich i was still making say that i should stay because i have customers and its the right thing to do. I DO NOT GIVE A FUCK about any customer unless its a regular i have helped and liked.

i clock out and leave after being screamed at for 5 minutes get into the car with SO and drive off while still being screamed at by Karens. we of course take a small detour in order to not be recorded going in the direction of our home (i live 1 minute away from this place) and as we turn i see COLE. What a surprise!!! walking the opposite direction of Subway and in the direction of a grocery store. Obviously being done with his shit i text the group chat we use to communicate with each other as a “team” about what i just saw and immediately get a text back from Cole in the chat calling me a stalker for knowing exactly where he is……….. THE FUCK. he says what i am doing is against the law and will keep record of the messages. I remind him that being in a car that you so happen to walk past is not illegal and im sorry you have a significantly ugly face that is easy to spot also reporting what you are doing wrong to my manager and team is not illegal. and would not have been screamed at by 4 people if he would just get to work on time. Manager texts me personally asking me to stop saying things like that in the chat in Cole's defense saying he will talk with him and already has. Cant wait till my next shift to be talked to about this, work rocks.

TLDR: my underpaid ass got yelled at by 4 customers and accused of being a stalker by my co-worker because i listened to my manager and didn't do any overtime.
