Living in Texas and may need to do FMLA

I have rheumatoid arthritis and struggle with being on my feet for long periods of time. I am working as a TA/Teacher at a non-profit private school. My work knows about my medical conditions as I have had to miss work before. I have rheumatoid arthritis and struggle with being on my feet for long periods of time. I am working as a TA/Teacher at a non-profit private school. My work knows about my medical conditions as I have had to miss work before. They have been supportive in most cases offering me work from home at times via zoom into the class or making sure I have something to prop my feet up on. This year my meds have not been working as well and I am having flare-ups in my feet with extreme pain. I have been given additional classes this year including a younger age group for an acitivty based STEM class. The added stress from this has just made my health worst. My doctor is urging me to take FMLA to recover but I couldn't afford my bills in this situation. I'm working with my employer to see what works for them and ideally, I can keep working from home to teach. However, if this does not work for them I do not know if I can get any kind of short-term disability or unemployment while on FMLA. I've looked online but the information is a bit confusing so I was wondering if anyone else has experience with this.
