Bout to blow my damn lid cus the COFFEE SHOP I work for scheduled me to work 6:30am-2:30pm on thanksgiving! It’s a neighborhood coffee shop and most of our weekday morning business is people heading to work or WFH. We all assumed the shop would be closed cus WHY WOULDN’T IT?
This is after learning that when I was a new hire there was one customer complaint about my drinks and the managements strategy was to “make me uncomfortable until I quit.”
It’s fuck around and find out season. Planning to unionize but I also don’t know what I’m doing so hit me with your tips and suggestions pls
Edit: this is like the millionth straw. I’m the longest tenured employee and I started in July, they turned over the entire staff cus everyone quit. Management is astonishingly conflict-avoidant and deaf to our requests for basic upkeep of the store. Their focus is on their more profitable locations. My latest coworker to quit did so because our boss got upset when they were alerted to a pipe leaking spoiled milk on the floor because they didn’t want to be talked to directly.
They switched over our payroll system recently, had tons of problems, we still haven’t received our pay stubs from 6 days ago, and they started taxing our tips which they had expressly told us before wouldn’t happen. Multiple times they’ve shorted employees on $ which was only caught because of the workers paying attention of course. It’s a clown show.
