Looking for advice please

Hi everyone, I’m currently working in a very toxic environment in a private hospital and I’m trying to change my job as I can’t take it any longer. I’ve been accepted for a non clinical medical secretary but the whole process has been really a pain and I’m not sure if this is normal, especially for someone who’s only going to deal with patients on the phone (I have no mention, not face to face). I’ve been asked to complete the DBS form online – fair enough, send at least 3 references from the past 4 years of employment – again, fair enough, send a LOT of documents (I’ve sent these documents at least 3 times by now and the lady keeps complaining she needs more or some of them won’t open), do an ID check in person (I went to their head office to present myself and give my…

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working in a very toxic environment in a private hospital and I’m trying to change my job as I can’t take it any longer.

I’ve been accepted for a non clinical medical secretary but the whole process has been really a pain and I’m not sure if this is normal, especially for someone who’s only going to deal with patients on the phone (I have no mention, not face to face).

I’ve been asked to complete the DBS form online – fair enough, send at least 3 references from the past 4 years of employment – again, fair enough, send a LOT of documents (I’ve sent these documents at least 3 times by now and the lady keeps complaining she needs more or some of them won’t open), do an ID check in person (I went to their head office to present myself and give my passport), I have to register my log ins AT HOME (is this even normal to set up my work account at home?) and complete the occupational health questionnaire (which took me by the way 45 minutes) … and that’s still not enough… here comes the cherry on top: I have to do some blood tests to check for:
Measles igG Antibody
Mumps igG Antibody
Rubella igG Antibody
Varicella Zoster igG Antibody
TB/BCG Evidence

I have mentioned I have extreme needle phobia and since I’m NON clinical, I would prefer to skip, if possible. I usually faint because I get very stressed out and I can’t control it.

I’ve always worked in this industry and never been asked to do so many things just for a secretarial position.

Is this normal or am I going crazy?

I really can’t take anymore the place where I’m currently at, but this entire process of starting another job has really put me off.

PS: I live in UK

PPS: Thank you in advance
