I’m currently working as a junior secretary in a large international law firm. My ‘program’ is for one year, and then once I finish that year, I’m classified as a regular secretary with responsibilities like everyone else.
I started in March 2022 with 55k including super. I had a wage review back in July 2022 due to inflation, my wage got increased to 60k including super. I asked whether there would be pay progression with I finish my one year program in March 2023, but they said no – my next wage review will be in July 2023 end of financial year. From the looks of it, I won’t get paid any more after the program even though I have the same work as my colleagues.
I’m assuming next year July 2023 will be 65k including super.
I got an administrative job offer for 70k plus super in a small local firm in a different sector. There are less benefits of course – just higher wage.
Should I quit my current job for the smaller company with higher wage? Essentially it’s a difference between 60k including super and 77k including super (17k difference).
I feel like working in administration is a step backwards from working as a secretary as I don’t need to face clients.
My fiancé might relocate for work in the future, so working in an international company allows me to transfer within the company to a different state.. If I was working with a small company I would need to quit, relocate then start job hunting again.
