tl;dr : Our new “landlord” found a litterbox and i'm upset about it.
Came home from work to find this on my doorstep in a plastic bag (not even hanging on the door). I'm so appalled and outraged in so many ways I don't even know where to begin.
Story:
My Fiance and I have been living in this apartment complex for almost two years now. Today, while I was at work, she let in pest control for their monthly routine spray. However, this time it went a little differently than usual.
Following behind our “bug guy” was a woman with a clipboard, who he introduced as the new “Property Manager™”. Their interaction was brief, and my wonderful Fiance went about her day as usual. Then I got home to find the attached images.
We got hit with a $150 fee for having an ” ” Illegal Pet ” “. PLUS we now need to pay management an ADDITIONAL $450 for our two cats. Oh, and and extra $25/month for Pet Rent (my cats don't have jobs? why do they also need to pay rent PLUS a non-refundable deposit?). Oh, and did I mention that these pets also MUST be registered on PetScreening .com, an additional $40? Which also requires weight/size approval from a vet (vet bill).
For some extra context here, we've never been late on rent, and we've had minimal Maintenace requests. We keep our home very clean and as i've said, been living here two years without issue. My problem doesn't just come from these pet expenses.. there's also some other TOM-FOOLERY I'd like to highlight just to demonstrate the ridiculousness of the situation.
– On Picture 1 it states “It has been reported by XXXX pest control that you have a cat in your unit that is not registered with us.” For one, how tf does the pest control guy know the registration status of our pets or what's in our lease agreement? Answer: He doesn't.
– She took note of all this when she entered the apartment (unannounced/uninvited) behind him and is hiding this discovery via monthly bug services. He's been the same guy who has come to our apartment over the last 6 months and is always friendly and kind to us about our cats and how he likes what we've done with the place.
– Picture 1, pt two. It states that they're going to be inspecting our apartment sometime between now and “wednesday, April 13rd” ?? So, sometime in between now and now? Not to mention 13rd …..
– I'm infuriated by the idea that the animals need to not only be approved by management, but also registered on some 3rd party website, alongside a vet's approval? SERIOUSLY Who comes up with this garbage?
– Our rent is $680 a MONTH for a 550 sq/ft, 1 bed 1 bath apt. And they're expecting us to pay $700 just so we can have some CATS? They're CATS for gods sake.
– We have 4 days to get all this approval done or they'll charge us another $150.
It doesn't even end there. I can acknowledge where SOME of these issues could have been avoided. But honestly, I'm absolutely malding at the idea that this money is pointlessly going towards our garbage landlords for this garbage apartment. These people can't even get SIMPLE tasks done correctly, like making sure the dates on their paper are correct and sensical. And I'm supposed to believe they deserve three entire weeks worth of my paycheck for this sh*t? Did I mention they raised our rent prices when we renewed our lease as well? I'm so done, so over it. Don't even know what to say anymore.
