I have been working at a retail job here in the UK for 4 years on the tills. e are not provided with chairs and have to serve the customers standing. The only exception of sitting down is during our breaks only. Long story short, today when bending down to grab a customer bag, I pulled/injured my back. For the first time in 4 years, I asked the supervisor If I may sit down on a chair for the last 2 hours of my shift and she agreed.
When the manager came, she was furious and overruled her decision. She said to me that I could not serve sitting on a chair, unless I provide a doctor's note. How can I provide a Doctor's note on the day of getting the injury? My family and I are struggling financially so I tried to tough it out and stay on my feet to finish my shift and get the full pay, but the pain was just too much (even now as of writing this). I went back to the ignorant Manager and she gave me 2 options: Go home or finish your shift standing. Now I'm home.
A job which I held for the last 4 years discards my health with no empathy. I now want to ask my Doctor to give me a sick note to get sick pay for as long as possible to spite them. I just feel so disrespected and uncared for after all the work and favours I have completed for the place.
Is there anything I can do to make their lives difficult in any other way?
