I was working as a server/bartender for a casual dining chain Italian restaurant. They fire roasted their pizzas and vegetables for toppings, but was middle of the road otherwise. We had long-sleeved black button up shirts, and were almost always over staffed for lunch shifts. My manager pulled me aside and said I had to cover the NFL team logo that was poking through the top of my shirt, which was small, inoffensive and often a talking point with patrons. (My shirt only had one button undone, so not like I was going deep V or anything). It was apparently a really big deal for him, for whatever reason, so he said either button your shirt up the entire way or clock out and go home. I said alright, then turned and clocked out. At least the rest of the servers would get a couple extra tables, and I was off the rest of the day. He looked shocked, asking if I was going to “let my team down”. I was probably a bit of a smart ass and left without feeling guilty at all. Found a new job the following week.
