Manager has tried to get me fired, unsuccessfully… what do I do?

I found out through the grapevine today that my immediate boss (VP level) and other coworker have been trying to get me fired for the better part of the last six months, but the owner said no. Also, I have never been informed of any instances of being written up for performance. The environment is toxic, and I frankly haven’t enjoyed working with my immediate boss for the past 4 years. We don’t get along (not that I haven’t actively tried to make it work) and I never receive praise from my immediate boss, only from the owner. We have someone under me starting soon (within the next 12 months) and I’m scared my immediate boss will somehow convince the owner to fire me (my immediate boss has done it before with other coworkers). My boss on numerous occasions has said to me that they are terrible at managing people…

My boss on numerous occasions has said to me that they are terrible at managing people and that they don’t like managing people. My boss is condescending and rude to me. While I have enjoyed working at my company, it hasn’t come without lots of other stressors such as: sexual misconduct towards myself and others, hostile work environment, shady firings of others, inappropriate talk of others in the company (job standings and physical appearance), pressures to not take time off or having to work actively while on PTO, and many many more. At one point I loved what I did and still do to some extent, but having heard this I want to understand my options and not have to take a new job because I feel pressured to do so. I successfully led our team (per the owner of the company) for several months when my boss was out… my company has a history of moving people into positions they don’t like and may be unqualified for to force them to quit…

What do I do to protect myself?
