A little background I work for an insurance company and able to work from home. It’s your typical Monday through Friday 9 to 5 that I took to be able to take care of my toddler because, you know, daycare is too damn expensive.
Since Having a kid I have developed severe migraines I get at least 6 to 10 times a month. Luckily They’ve been happening towards the evening at night and on the weekend so I haven’t really had to miss too much work but they are starting to become more frequent and I’m waking up with them now. So I ended up going to the doctor and was eventually referred to see a neurologist. I immediately contacted them and they had a wait a couple months out so I’ve been on a list to get an appointment. Well last week I finally got the call that they could schedule an appointment for me and I immediately scheduled a full day off for the appointment because it’s two hours away and most doctors appointments are hours long, I even made sure to tell him what it was for. The day of the appointment just so happened to be a little over two weeks out which is the requirement for requesting time off with my company. I sign into work the next day and get an email from my manager saying that he won’t approve my time off and is expecting me to be at work because I didn’t have enough PTO hours for a full day off and that he won’t approve it. I used my PTO hours for my uncles funeral in another state and for a trip to go to see my sick grandmother. I just don’t understand why he won’t approve it because we’re actually allowed to schedule a day off without being paid so there’s literally no reason for him not to approve it. He’s a new manager and is not the nicest so I’m not really surprised but it’s just super frustrating because I can’t miss the appointment. I guess I’m going to have to call out that day and deal with consequences.
