Manager ridiculed my mental health and I’m think of suing

Long story short, I was working with a new account (about 6 months) and came to the conclusion that it was not working out. I tried to change how I was responding, which just caused the client to double down efforts to undermine me. I asked to change accounts. Long story short, I was working with a new account (about 6 months) and came to the conclusion that it was not working out. I tried to change how I was responding, which just caused the client to double down efforts to undermine me. I asked to change accounts. My Supervisor who had up to that point been very understanding and proactive, agreed but it was up to the Dept Mgr.

I spoke with him directly and not only was he aggressive and extremely uncouth, he threw my condition in my face. Because I am bipolar and also have PTSD, which was disclosed under ADA when I was hired. He said, “Well every client is like this. What if I move you and you have the same problem? Every person has quirks. You can't just leave because you can't handle it and want to be bipolar and sensitive like a baby and cry about anxiety. You need to deal with it.”

I was really taken aback. Not only because he knew my specific condition (and I have no idea how he does) but also because suddenly it wasn't about addressing the client's behavior and her lack of boundaries. Which were causing me undue anxiety. It was blaming me for not being a door mat for her and not simply accepting that a toxic environment was considered normal there.

I said nothing. Thanked him for his time and disconnected. I then phoned HR and advised them that I was leaving to go to the doctor. My doctor took me off work 60 days. I am on a leave of absence and I am also about to hire an attorney. I have spent the last week having to cycle through all kinds of emotions, but the most prevalent one still being the shock of basically being told that I was expected to work regardless of the effect on my health. I knew work culture was toxic but I have never in all these years known a Mgr that is that far out of touch with his staff. I was disgusted. What a terrible excuse of a human being.
