I work as a to-go server. I know some people disagree with the practice of tipping on takeout orders, which I don’t even agree should be necessary myself, but I only make $5 an hour so I basically completely rely on tips to be able to try and survive.
Anyway, we typically have three to-go servers on per night as I work at a very busy chain restaurant. My other two coworkers did not show up on Sunday night, which is our busiest night for takeout. I was working HARD and customers noticed and i ended up making about $165 in tips. I usually make only about $50-60 per night. So I was thrilled!
About half of this was in cash. My manager made me give him my cash tips because he helped. Which yes, he did help. But he makes so much more money than I do. My hourly is a few below minimum wage. I had to give it to him or be fired. I wish I hadn’t but I’m drowning in bills and cannot currently handle missing even half of one paycheck.
I do have an interview on Friday for a new serving job that should hopefully be a better situation than this. I’m just really angry and upset and needed to vent.
