manager trying to do something probably illegal?

So I just started a new job this week, and I ended up getting scheduled for a day I told them I need off. So I let the manager know I couldn't be in that day. And they responded with basically if I have to call out for any reason and can't make up the hours later; I'll need to pay the person covering for me. Like they want me to pay this person, personally, out of my paycheck. Just so the company doesn't have to deal with changing who they're paying for the day. I almost quit right there when I read the email. So that's like super illegal right? Also I feel like if I did that I could be held liable if anything went wrong. Especially since I am not a corporation, I can't take taxes out and I'm not the one with a contract with whoever…
