I feel like the person this is about probably lurks this sub. If you are a gas station attendant and your name starts with a K and you wear a dope bow tie, then this is probably about you, but this is also for all the others out there who might be in this same boat…
I wasn't lying in what I said to you – you are absolutely worth more than $11 an hour. You are a human with wants and needs which that job will never be able to fulfill and your boss has no interest in trying to ensure you are fulfilled. If I asked you to come clean my house for an hour and offered you $11 for it, I would hope you'd rightfully tell me to go fuck myself. Don't let them tell you to clean their house and make them their money and only give you $11 and expect you to smile for it. You're better than this.
I've been seeing you in there for awhile and you are by-far my favorite person who works there, but nothing would make me prouder than for me to find out that you walked out of there and never looked back. If you can convince your coworkers to walk out with you then all the better.
I know this town is relatively small and there's not a ton of opportunity here, but you have to try. Try the doctor's offices for check-in, check-out, or receptionist roles. Check the hospital for similar positions. If you have a car check the nearby “rich people” town and look for more positions like that at random clinics. I work at one of such clinics and if you see this bring it up to me next time you see me in there and I'll give you their information. Please try to avoid call centers as they will eat your soul. But do not let those parasites keep taking advantage of you. Your kindness and charisma is being exploited.
