Okay so I bag groceries for tips. My only job should
be bagging groceries and bringing them to the customer's car. Our team made a deal with the store that if we brought the carts inside after work, and organised the carts/baskets during work. This shouldn't have to be a thing in the first place because we're not being paid for it, but because this deal happened long before i got here I didnt question it too much. Today someone yelled at us for not taking care of the baskets in the self-checkout area. We were all busy bagging groceries, the only thing we do that actually makes us money. Then later a different manger (i think) told us that if we dont keep the break room clean then we wouldn't be allowed to use it anymore. This is the most disrespectful thing I've ever been told at work. First of all the mess could have been from a cashier or anyone else who works here. Second, even if it was one of us we have any cleaning supplies in the room so there's nothing we can do. There is a janitor here and it is their job to clean. I dont want to make their job harder but if we cant clean it then its not our fault.
If they try to take away the break room from us that's fine. We'll just stop taking care of the carts and baskets. I swear without us doing this unpaid labour the place would fall apart. I'm moving soon, this was always gonna be a temp job but I'm just pissed.
