Mandatory Class on a weekend??

To keep it short, I work in a field that requires CPR and First Aid certifications. Which is fine. No issues there because I work with kids. HOWEVER. My job is M-F. The building is closed on the weekends too. My job ONLY schedules an. 8 HOUR cpr course on saturdays. The compensation is that the company pays for the class/courses but we do not get compensated for our time. Which the course is a flat rate that would equal less of my pay for 8 hours. On a Saturday. I have a small child at home, I don’t want to give up a whole 8 hours on my day off to not even be paid???? Is this unreasonable to be annoyed about it? Am I being ungrateful for feeling like I shouldn’t have to attend something on a Saturday for work when I’m not even getting paid for it?…

While I think it’s nice that they pay for the classes, I also don’t understand why we can’t close for one day during the week to do the training? We close for inservice days twice a year. I feel like the parents of the kids would be grateful that we are closing to get out certifications in CPR and First Aid? Thoughts?
