Required online training for a job but no compensation?
Hello, I am in the food service industry and recently my boss told me and the other coworkers that there was a new training program with modules to complete. We all groaned but said whatever and looked into it. The average amount it time it takes to complete the entire module is around 4-5 hours.
I went and complained to my friends just to complain and a friend mentioned that it was a violation of a law for employees to be forced to do training that relates to the current job without being compensated. specifically this law right here I was wondering if this law applied to online training as well.
The information I'm concerned about and think it causes it to apply to the law is:
• Mandatory training, hours will not be given or hours will be reduced if not completed
• Training is expected to be done at home or during your break
•It is a training specifically for the resteraunt, it's NOT a food handlers license or something needed to require working there.
The reason I have doubts is because it is an online training course and I'm not sure if it applies to this specific law or not. Any help would be much appreciated, thank you in advance.
