So, I have kind of a unique job. I work two days per week, with five days off. I'm still considered “full time” with my company, get full time benefits, and make about $56k a year (which is a good salary in my area).
My job does offer OT during my days off, which I occasionally do for some extra cash, but honestly I've been with the company for 9 years and it's a boring job. I stay there because I mean…who the fuck wouldn't? I'd watch paint dry to make this kind of money and only need to work two days.
Now that summer is ending, and the holiday season is only a few months away, I decided maybe I'd try getting some part-time job in retail or fast food for a few hours a week, because according boomers and those on the right, those jobs will “hire anyone”.
I know these jobs aren't “fun”, but I also thought it would be interesting to work at one when they have literally no power over me.
However, it appears they are not interested in someone like me.
I got four interviews pretty quickly. Wendy's, Petco, JCPenney, and Spirit Halloween (not going to lie, I actually got excited over Spirit Halloween).
All of the interviews went well, until one specific moment. It was when each of the hiring managers asked about my current employment.
I explained to them my current situation, and in all four interviews their tune immediately changed at that moment. They suddenly all looked annoyed, and rushed through the last few questions, and basically pushed me out the door.
It was very apparent they had no interest in someone they realized had no stake in the game.
Despite the fact I was polite and professional in the interviews, and they initially all seemed eager to hire me, once they understood that I was in a position to “need” the job and could just walk out if I wanted, they lost all interest in hiring me.
