“Mark has left the company, please send all requests to BostonM2”

This board has been such an inspiration to me over the years – now I'm seeking a clever response to my own situation. High level – I represent an exclusive and niche role at a company where there were 2 of us flying around the country putting out fires. That dude just quit. He was here 9 years, I just started 9 months ago. This is a $90k job. Email from corporate goes out saying Im now effectively covering the entire country until a replacement is found. I already travel 50% of the time. Anything more clever than me saying: “Happy to step in here boss. Pay me 50% of his salary until you get his territory covered with a new hire” Too soft? Weak? How do I maximize their pain?
