I am in middle management, in South Florida. According to all of our written policies I am the one who decides if our office is to remain closed or open. This is a property management company so it is important our team be available to respond to Property needs during the storm, but not more important then my teams safety.
I made the call that our team would not come in in the morning until 10 AM as I did not want them on the road while active Tornado warnings were up (Until 7 AM at that time). My bosses response was “Tornados are coming and going, your team needs to be there for the property!”
NO. MY TEAMS SAFETY COMES FIRST. THEY ARE NOT GETTING BLOWN AWAY IN A TORNADO BECAUSE YOU WANT THEM SITTING AT THE OFFICE WAITING TO PICK UP THE DEBRIS. YES THEY ARE GOING TO GET PAID FOR THE TIME, AND I GET TO MAKE THE CALL.
SINCE THE CORPRATE OFFICES ARE ALL CLOSED DUE TO THE STORM AS YOU ARE CONCERNED FOR THE CORPORATE TEAMS SAFETY, I AM CONCERED FOR MY TEAMS SAFETY. MY HOUSEKEEPERS AND MAINTENANCE STAFF LIVES ARE NOT LESS IMPORTANT THEN THOSE SITTING IN AN OFFICE FARTHER AWAY FROM THE STORMS CENTER THEN US!
sorry for the yelling. Thanks for listening to my rant from middle management hell.
