However, weirdly, we’ve just hired 20 new people in my department alone.
It isn’t a real surprise that I’m one of many getting this threat, even though we are not supposed to tell anyone (?). The lease is up for our satellite buildings and corporate has decided we all come back in in January. But there’s not enough desks in our old building. And, even though they’ve had the best profits in their history recently, they cannot afford to keep everyone. I’m not sure how newly hired people fit into this unless they are able to push us out twice as fast as they’re hired.
At least we now have expensive custom arcade games. And are allowed to wear anything we want in the office, including pajamas. That will solve everything. This is why people work from home, right?
Don’t worry, corporate has spoken to professionals: these millennials just want more money when they should be excited about the amazing benefits of PTO and flexible work (until January). We also give them leftovers from corporate catered events! We cannot give into their demands. They should be thankful we didn’t lower their salaries through Covid!
(Literally what we’ve been told. “We didn’t raise salaries but at least we didn’t lower them! You should all be thankful, we could’ve!”)
I hope I’m let go. Unemployment and more time for my job search. And no more wondering what I’m going to get in trouble for that day because my manager is in a bad mood. I’ve tried my best since I was told I might be fired but it’s made no difference. So why should I try?
This whole system is broken. I refuse to live to work.
