In my current position as a TA with EC students, I have been screwed over for three days of working over Sping Break— no pay, nothing.
This is hardly the first time I've been fucked over in public education, but I no longer take any shit from anyone, ever.
I got no response from the principal who I worked with over three days of hard menial labor. Who promised me I would be paid. I sent him an email with the subject line
I didn't get paid a damn dime for Spring Break
He's a oh I'm so busy self-righteous fucker. Too busy to read emails.
But I don't beg anymore either.
So when the teacher I work under needed me to sub for her for health reasons, I took advantage of that fact.
I knew they were planning on fucking me up the ass, again, when the director of the EC department deflated in front of me, trying to get me to stay past my shift due to bus schedule fuck ups I told him the following:
I'm still owed $$$ from working here over Spring Break and I have sent the principal an email letting him know to never ask me to do anything beyond my hours, ever.
Watching that spineless lump double over before me was quite gratifying.
Then, I got some email from the principal about my continual 5-10 minute lateness after he was all hardass about his no lateness policy in front of the whole school.
(Some people simply don't understand open contempt. I even said hello to him every day as I entered the school late, and made a habit of only using his first name to address him, even in front of the entire school. You don't do that to principals.)
This after no response from a text from me about an actual issue at the end of the day with some disgruntled students who are no responsibility of mine.
My next text:
So you're right on that issue, huh, but nothing on my email from months back? Don't worry, you'll have my resignation by the end of the month.
(Im working on my exit)
Then I see his smiling ass as I show up late the next day. I wear an expression of open hate.
I barely slow as he greets me, I don't bother to make eye contact and I slow enough only to convey this:
You need to check your emails more carefully, (his first name)
and I kept on walking.
Him, nervously:
Um, from when?
I keep my fast pace and don't turn as I say
From about a month after we worked together, (his name)
and I entered the building, leaving him outside.
My teacher went to set up her departure that day, arguing for sub pay for me.
No one asked me to do anything.
But there was a substitute option in my clock login at the end of the day.
I'm taking advantage of that, temporarily. ($$ is much better, I took the aide position for the insurance, which subs normally don't get.)
The best part:
My co-aide is an ex-student of mine from when I taught as a standard English teacher in the same school.
I told her never to volunteer for anything, with my reasoning.
She told me Tuesday that she'd already turned the principal down for such an offer. With a big smile.
She also has a substitute login at the moment. Which she is using. Week two on the job.
NEVER PUNCH DOWN
NEVER PUNCH TO YOUR SIDE
GIVE THEM A HAND
PUNCH UP
UP FAR ENOUGH TO HURT IF YOU CAN
After I'm in another job, outside of education, I'm telling this whole story, with names and saved communications, to the whole fucking planet.
Have a lovely evening, fellow workers.
I am. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
ETA: goddammit on my poor grammar in the title
