Earlier this year I applied to work at a relatively big name tech company, one that I have a lot of respect and admiration for, so working for them was a very attractive prospect for me. A week later I got a reply basically saying they didn't want me for the position I applied for, but then recommended me for another position. I interviewed twice for that role but ultimately wasn't chosen. I was disappointed, but I still wrote them a thank you letter for their time and figured I'd keep my eye on their open positions in future.
A few months later a gentleman from said company reached out on a recommendation from the guy I interviewed with before. I interviewed again with a different manager and once again was not selected for the position. This time the hiring manager told me to apply for yet another position because they 'really want me at the company' and that he would recommend me for the next position. Optimistic at this point, I applied again and even did some unpaid work for them to show what I can do. Another hiring manager reached out to get the ball rolling. After a week I hadn't heard back so I followed up. Another week went by and I reached out again and also to the guy that said he would recommend me. Neither of them have responded after 2 weeks.
It was a really discouraging experience since this job was a dream opportunity for me and I still would work for them if they offered but time to move on. I understand if they don't think the fit is right but then I think they should tell me that or say nothing at all. Not encouraging me to apply again.
